This 19th century engraved bamboo and wood container with wood stopper from Borneo, Indonesia. The
wood has a fine patina with clear signs of age and use. Such stoppers were used to close bamboo
containers that held powdered lime that Borneo chewers used to put extra oxygen into their
bloodstream to enable them to work in the fields longer and harder.
